Why gemini 2.5 flash is removed?

We wrote our prompts according to gemini 2.5 flash, optimized according to that and now it is removed and our agent is not working the way it should ?

So i checked with the team and Gemini 2.5 Flash was deprecated by Google, with a shutdown date of June 17, 2026. We proactively migrated it on May 2 to avoid a hard service interruption when Google shuts down the endpoint.

Agents configured with gemini-2.5-flash are now automatically running on gemini-3.0-flash. Since the two models have different instruction-following characteristics, prompts tuned for 2.5 Flash may need some adjustment.

Your options:

  • Gemini 3.0 Flash is Google’s recommended successor and is already what your agent is running on.

  • Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite is still available if you prefer to stay on the 2.5 generation, though it is a lighter model with different capabilities.

Hello @shaw, Can you please ask the dev team to look into this, since the shutdown date for Gemini 2.5 Flash has been extended by another 5–6 months?

Google is not shutting down due to community response !

We developed our agent based on Gemini 2.5 Flash prompts, and it performs best with that model. Later on, we can work on refining the prompts for other models as well.

Can they bring it back in the Retell configuration?

I have escalates this to our engineering team to evaluate whether gemini-2.5-flash can be re-enabled in the platform given the extended timeline. We’ll follow up once we have an update.

Since we already sent out deprecation notices, we do not plan on adding gemini-2.5-flash back again. The migration has not occurred yet; agents that have already selected gemini-2.5-flash are still currently using them. The migration to gemini-3.0-flash will happen on May 25.

However, we are happy to manually override some agents to gemini-2.5-flash if you provide their agent ids.

By the way, the manual overrides would only apply from now until May 25. They will also be automatically migrated.
