Hi Retell Team,
We are currently testing multilingual support for our voice agent. The agent is configured in English by default, and once multilingual support is enabled, it is able to detect when the caller is speaking in a different language.
However, even after detecting the caller’s language, the agent continues to respond in English. We wanted to check if there is a setting or configuration that allows the agent to respond in the same language as the caller.
Could you please confirm if this behavior can be changed? If yes, can you share the steps or required configuration?
Thanks.
Hello @sabari.selvaraj Yes, this behavior can be changed. With a multilingual agent properly configured, it should automatically respond in the caller’s detected language.
Steps:
-
In the dashboard, switch the language selector to Multiselect.
-
Pick the exact set of languages the agent should support (e.g., English (US) + Spanish (ES)).
-
At call time, the agent will detect the caller’s language and is allowed to respond in any of the selected languages, choosing based on what the caller speaks.
If your agent is still on the legacy “Multilingual” setting, replace it with specific language picks that’s more accurate and ensures proper response-language matching. You can also reinforce the behavior with a prompt instruction.
Thank You
