Inbound dial-to-SIP stuck at registered, never connects — gated on free trial / no card?

Inbound calls via dial-to-SIP (provider: 46elks). Flow: register-phone-call → get call_id → 46elks dials sip:<call_id>@sip.retellai.com;transport=tcp.

Every call fails: stays call_status: registered, disconnection_reason: null, caller hears silence.

Already ruled out: valid call_id :white_check_mark:, ;transport=tcp :white_check_mark:, dialed instantly (no timeout) :white_check_mark:, G.711 codec :white_check_mark:, and 46elks confirms no blocks on their side (“fails when connecting to Retell”).

Account: Free Trial, ~$9 credit, no card added.

Questions:

  1. Does inbound custom telephony (dial-to-SIP) require a card on file, even with trial credit? Is that why calls register but never connect?
  2. Does custom telephony need to be enabled on the workspace — and how?

Hey @masudur ,

With a free trial, you are unable to make live calls to our sip domain. We will throw an error that says → `register-phone-call failed: 402 {“status”:“error”,“message”:“Trial over quota, please add payment.”}`

To answer your questions,

  1. Yes dial to SIP method requires a card on file.

  2. Custom telephony is automatically enabled for each account that is created.

If you want the full capabilities, definitely add a credit card. Also want to verify your identity if you want to do any outbound at all.
