# Agent calls end\_call before user responds

My agent (agent\_ff5b637ac9f5e3edf9dbc0cfe7) invokes end\_call right after asking its last question, without waiting for the caller’s answer. Happens even with Temperature at 0.00 and explicit prompt instructions to wait for a response and never call end\_call in the same turn as a question.

Example calls:

- call\_3724a866c6ee8d5f783…ff5 (V6)
- call\_4108ec463dee87688ce…a7a (V7)

Agent asks “What time do you prefer a callback?” then end\_call fires seconds later, no user turn in between. Is this expected behavior or a bug?

Hey @yoisbelcardenas14 This behavior is caused by the model invoking `end_call` in the same turn as the callback-time question, rather than a telephony issue.

We recommend updating the `end_call` tool description to explicitly state:

> End the call only after the user has explicitly said goodbye or confirmed they have no further needs. Never invoke `end_call` in the same turn as a question, or while awaiting a user response.

As a temporary mitigation while testing these changes, you can switch the agent from GPT-5.1 to GPT-4.1, which is less likely to batch the question and tool call into the same turn.
